GUM GRAFTING FOR RECESSION

Gum grafting, also known as gingival grafting or periodontal plastic surgery, is a dental procedure designed to address gum recession. Gum recession occurs when the gum tissue surrounding the teeth wears away, exposing more of the tooth and the tooth's root. This condition can lead to sensitivity, esthetic concerns, and an increased risk of further dental problems.

During a gum grafting procedure, Dr. Pastagia will harvest a small amount of tissue, often from the patient's palate or she will use a donor tissue. The graft is then placed over the exposed roots, effectively covering and protecting the exposed surfaces.

Gum grafting serves multiple purposes, including preventing additional recession, reducing sensitivity, improving the appearance of the smile, and promoting the regeneration of healthy gum tissue.

Gum grafting is a common and effective solution for addressing gum recession and enhancing oral health. It not only restores the protective gum tissue but also contributes to a more aesthetically pleasing smile. Post-surgery care, including proper oral hygiene practices and regular dental check-ups, is crucial for the long-term success of the graft and overall periodontal health.
